Search Efforts Continue at Potomac River Crash Site
Search efforts are ongoing at the wreckage site of a fatal midair collision between an American Airlines plane and a military helicopter in the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The remains of all 67 individuals who died in the tragic accident have been recovered by rescue teams.
Remains Recovered, Identification Ongoing
Sixty-six of the remains have been positively identified, with the Unified Command continuing to work on the remaining identifications. Crews are also clearing wreckage, including large pieces of the plane, from the Potomac River. Unloading of the wreckage is expected to begin on Wednesday, depending on environmental and tidal conditions.
Focus Shifts to Helicopter Wreckage
Following the completion of the plane wreckage removal, operations will shift to recovering wreckage from the Black Hawk helicopter.

This collision marks the deadliest air accident in Washington, D.C. since 1982. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway, led by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board.
