The Devastating Aftermath of Conflict in Gaza and the West Bank
The ceasefire in Gaza may be holding, but the needs of the people living there remain overwhelming. Humanitarian organizations are struggling to meet the demands of a population grappling with the aftermath of intense conflict.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that the scale of needs in Gaza is immense, requiring urgent and sustained support. Hospitals are facing critical shortages of oxygen, essential for emergency, surgical, and intensive care services. Shelter partners have distributed tarpaulins to families in northern Gaza, while in Khan Younis, families are receiving essential supplies at displacement sites.
Education is also a major concern. Over 95% of school buildings were damaged during the hostilities, forcing students into makeshift tents and open spaces in the harsh winter conditions. A distance learning program has been implemented, but more than 250,000 people remain enrolled.
Meanwhile, in the West Bank, the situation remains tense. Since the Israeli military operations began in January, 36 Palestinians have been killed, and critical infrastructure has been severely damaged. The use of lethal force during these operations has raised concerns about excessive use of force.
Over the weekend, Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian residents in several villages, setting a house on fire. Humanitarian partners are mobilizing resources to support the affected communities.
The needs in both Gaza and the West Bank are immense. The international community must provide urgent and sustained support to help these communities rebuild their lives and recover from the devastating impact of the conflict.

“For me, it seems the whole narrative is manipulated to garner sympathy without addressing why these tensions exist in the first place.”

“The focus on damaged infrastructure and shortages is important, but omitting the security aspects undermines the credibility of this report.”

“This text feels like propaganda – only showing the devastation while ignoring security concerns and the measures taken by Israel for its citizens.”

“I think the text is meant to shift the blame indiscriminately. Instead of objective facts, it’s filled with selective emphasis on suffering.”

“This article seems one-sided. It only highlights humanitarian issues in Gaza and the West Bank without addressing what led to the conflict or any context from all sides.”
