A Push for Standardization and Innovation
China is taking significant steps to advance its Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) industry. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is considering establishing a BCI standardization technical committee to guide enterprises in enhancing industrial standards and boosting domestic innovation.
This proposed committee will focus on developing a BCI standards roadmap for the entire industry, as well as standards for research and development of key technologies. China has already made considerable progress in BCI development, with both central and local governments providing policy support and financial investment.
Despite starting later than Western countries, China's BCI industry is rapidly catching up. The government's strong support has injected momentum into innovation, as evidenced by the numerous BCI companies receiving funding and the development of China's first "high-performance invasive BCI," Neucyber.
Neucyber's success highlights the importance of collaboration and talent development. The Chinese Institute for Brain Research gathered a team of experts from various fields, enabling them to achieve this breakthrough.
While China's BCI technology may lag behind leading countries in some areas, the country is committed to closing the gap. The proposed standardization committee and continued investment in research and talent development will play a crucial role in propelling China's BCI industry forward.
