Singapore officials are exploring plans for a new integrated transport hub in Tampines that will strengthen connectivity and convenience for local residents. During the launch of the Tampines 5-Year Masterplan (2025-2030), Minister Masagos Zulkifli outlined a vision of a community where a seamless pedestrian network and active mobility options are at the heart of daily living, comparable to the lively atmosphere found in bustling market streets.
The transport hub is envisioned as a vibrant space where families can leisurely stroll along streets lined with shops, trendy cafes, and greenery, reminiscent of an Osaka Street Market reimagined in a Singaporean context. This development is part of a broader strategy to reduce reliance on cars, alleviating parking issues, and ensuring that residents can live, work, and play with greater ease within Tampines.
Further plans include improving the pedestrian route between Tampines MRT Station and the town’s shopping malls. By focusing on a "people-first" town centre, the initiative will draw on successful urban design strategies from around the world, transforming parts of Tampines Central 5 into a pedestrianized area. Community feedback will be crucial in shaping these developments to ensure that the results reflect Tampines' unique character and identity.
