People's Power Party Withdraws from People's Alliance for Reform
The People's Power Party (PPP) has announced its withdrawal from the People's Alliance for Reform (PAR), a four-party alliance formed in 2023. The decision, announced by PPP secretary-general Goh Meng Seng on February 22nd, was attributed to "irreconcilable strategic differences" ahead of the upcoming General Election.
Mr. Goh emphasized the importance of ensuring PAR's continued effectiveness as a political force, stating that the withdrawal aimed to avoid disruptions caused by fundamental strategic differences. He acknowledged the long journey towards forming PAR and expressed deep appreciation for the partnership. However, he noted that the parties had reached a crossroads necessitating the difficult decision to withdraw.
PV secretary-general Lim Tean, in response to PPP's withdrawal, explained that the party had insisted on contesting Tampines GRC, a move opposed by PV, RP, and DPP due to the potential for a four-corner fight. Additionally, disagreements arose regarding PPP's stance on the COVID-19 vaccine. Mr. Lim emphasized PAR's status as a true coalition with a common manifesto, not merely a loose gathering. He wished PPP well in the upcoming General Election.
Mr. Goh, who formed the PPP in 2015, has contested in various constituencies in previous elections, including Chua Chu Kang GRC, MacPherson SMC, Tampines GRC, and Aljunied GRC.

It's good that PAR is not just a rubber stamp for whatever the other parties want. They should have the right to disagree and pursue their own goals.

I'm glad to see PPP standing up for its principles. They're not afraid to take a stand, even if it means going against the other opposition parties.

I believe PPP has a good chance of winning in the next election, even without the support of the other opposition parties.

PPP's actions are irresponsible and they should be held accountable.

The opposition doesn't need to be a monolith. Having different voices and perspectives is important for a healthy democracy.

Their insistence on Tampines GRC shows they don't care about working together with other parties. They just want power for themselves.

The opposition needs more parties like PPP who are not afraid to challenge the status quo.

I'm proud of PPP for taking a stand against the PAP.
