From Fighter Pilot Dreams to Potential Chairman of the Joint Chiefs
Dan Caine, a retired three-star general, has emerged as a surprise pick for the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. President Trump's fascination with Caine appears to stem from their first meeting in Iraq in 2018, where Caine, then the deputy commander of a special operations task force, told the president that the Islamic State could be destroyed in just a week.
Trump has repeatedly praised Caine, calling him "a real general, not a television general." If approved by the Senate, Caine will take over a military facing significant changes and will inherit a Joint Staff rattled by the surprise firing of the previous chairman.
Caine's military career is unconventional for someone aiming to become the president's top military advisor. He did not rise as high in the ranks as previous generals and admirals, and according to Trump, was "passed over for promotion by Sleepy Joe Biden."
Despite this, Trump seems determined to elevate Caine, writing on Truth Social, "But not anymore!" Caine's journey from aspiring fighter pilot to potential chairman of the Joint Chiefs is a testament to his dedication and the president's trust in him.
