Chinese and Vietnamese authorities have been holding multiple rounds of discussions focused on strengthening rail links between the two countries. Recent talks, as reported by China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, indicate that both nations have successfully reached several preliminary agreements aimed at boosting inter-connectivity.
During a news conference, ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun revealed that both sides have committed to hastening the feasibility study for a standard gauge railway that will connect Vietnam's Lao Cai, Hanoi, and Hai Phong. This move follows reports of Vietnam's National Assembly's recent approval of investment for the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong railway project.
In addition, Guo noted that further efforts are underway to promote planning and advance additional standard gauge railway projects. One such project includes a line that would connect China's Hekou Yao autonomous county in Yunnan province with Vietnam's Lao Cai, signaling a broader initiative to enhance cross-border rail infrastructure.
