China Warns and Expels Philippine Aircraft from Disputed Airspace
The People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China announced on Tuesday that it had warned and expelled a Philippine C-208 aircraft that had entered airspace over Huangyan Island in the South China Sea.
PLA Southern Theater Command spokesperson Tian Junli stated that the Philippine aircraft had illegally entered the airspace without China's permission. The PLA dispatched naval and air forces to track, monitor, warn, and ultimately expel the aircraft.
Tian accused the Philippines of distorting facts and spreading false narratives about the incident. He emphasized that the actions of the Philippine side seriously infringed on China's sovereignty and violated international law, as well as relevant Chinese laws and regulations.
He reiterated China's claim of sovereignty over Huangyan Island, calling it an inherent part of China's territory. He further accused the Philippines of using military provocations to press its claims and attempting to manipulate international perception through hype and propaganda.
The PLA Southern Theater Command concluded by stating that its forces remain on high alert to defend China's sovereignty and security, and to safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea.
