China's Efforts to Safeguard Maritime Defense Security
China has significantly strengthened its efforts to safeguard maritime defense security, according to the Ministry of Public Security. Over 14,000 criminal cases related to maritime affairs were solved last year, and more than 20,000 coastal risk hazards were mitigated.
The ministry emphasizes that the crackdown on maritime-related crimes aims to reinforce coastal security defenses and ensure the safety and stability of the coastline. In collaboration with relevant departments, Chinese police have intensified efforts to combat irregularities such as illegal fishing, smuggling, and immigration.
From May to October 2024, public security agencies, in cooperation with fishery and coast guard authorities, solved 474 criminal cases related to illegal fishing, seizing over 1,700 metric tons of fish. Additionally, police officers conducted extensive inspections in shipping enterprises and major maritime agencies, including those in ports, docks, coastlines, and islands. This resulted in the identification and correction of over 6,100 potential risks and hazards last year.
These efforts demonstrate China's commitment to maintaining a safe and secure maritime environment for its citizens and the international community. By cracking down on illegal activities and mitigating coastal risks, China is ensuring the stability and prosperity of its maritime domain.
