Exploring the Future of Human-Android Coexistence
Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro, a renowned robotics researcher from Osaka University Graduate School, will unveil his vision for the future of human-android coexistence at the Osaka Kansai Expo 2025, opening in April.
Ishiguro has designed one of the expo's signature pavilions, themed "amplification of lives." This exhibition will delve into humanity's ancient attempts to bring life to clay figures like "Dogu" and "Haniwa," while also depicting a potential future where androids seamlessly integrate into society and daily life.
Visitors to the pavilion will be greeted by adult androids called "Yamatoroids" and child androids called "Asukaroids," named after ancient Japanese regions. These androids will interact with visitors through eye contact and smiles. Mobile robots adorned with moss, bamboo, and traditional "washi" paper will further enhance the immersive experience.
Professor Ishiguro hopes this pavilion will spark conversations and encourage people to contemplate the future they desire to create. He believes that exploring the possibilities of human-android coexistence is crucial for shaping a future that benefits both humans and their artificial counterparts.

This is just another way for corporations to make money off of us. They don't care about the consequences, they just want to sell more robots.

This whole 'amplification of lives' thing sounds creepy. What does it even mean?

I believe that the future is bright for human-android coexistence. I can't wait to see what we can accomplish together.

Ishiguro wants us to create a future with robots? What about the environment? Shouldn't we be focusing on saving the planet instead?
