Trump Media & Rumble Target Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Over Censorship Claims

U.S. President Donald Trump’s media enterprise and the video-sharing site Rumble have initiated a lawsuit against Alexandre de Moraes, a justice on Brazil’s Supreme Court, alleging that his recent orders amounted to improper censorship. The complaint, filed in Tampa’s U.S. District Court, contends that the judge’s decisions have suppressed legitimate political conversation in the United States by targeting specific accounts.

The case emerges amid heightened scrutiny of Moraes, who is currently addressing charges accusing former President Jair Bolsonaro of orchestrating a movement to destabilize Brazil’s democratic system after losing the 2022 elections. Rumble’s statement further contends that Moraes infringed on free speech rights enshrined in the First Amendment by suspending U.S.-based user accounts without due process.

In recent years, Moraes has been active in limiting social media activity, blocking multiple accounts as part of a broader effort to counter perceived attacks on democracy and the manipulation of political narratives through disinformation.
