Canada Set for Historic Friendly Clash with Romania in Bucharest

Canada and Romania are gearing up for a significant encounter as the two teams will meet in Bucharest for an international friendly on September 5. This match marks the inaugural meeting between the sides, with Canada holding a current ranking of 31 compared to Romania's 38.

The friendly is a key part of Canada's preparation aimed at securing a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Canadian coach Jesse Marsch acknowledged Romania's formidable abilities, citing their strong performance at Euro 2024, where they topped a challenging group comprised of Belgium, Slovakia, and Ukraine, before eventually falling to the Netherlands in the round of 16.

In addition to this historic clash, Canada Soccer announced that another friendly match in September will soon be confirmed. Following the encounter with Romania, Canada's next commitment is a CONCACAF Nations League semi-final against Mexico on March 20, with the promise of further competitive action as they vie to advance and potentially face either the United States or Panama in the final on March 23. The summer schedule also includes participation in the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
