A tourist village in China's Sichuan province, known for its scenic snowscape, has apologized for using cotton wool and soapy water to create fake snow. The deception was exposed after online criticism from visitors went viral.

During the Lunar New Year holiday in late January, the weather was unusually warm, preventing the village from achieving its anticipated snowy appearance. In an attempt to create a "snowy" atmosphere, the Chengdu Snow Village project resorted to purchasing cotton to simulate snow.

However, the attempt backfired spectacularly. Photos shared on social media showed large cotton sheets scattered across the grounds, failing to convincingly cover the leafy areas. Visitors were quick to point out the deception, with one netizen remarking, "A snow village without snow." Another user commented, "In today's age of the internet, scenic spots must advertise truthfully and avoid deception or false advertising, otherwise they will only shoot themselves in the foot."

Following the online backlash, the tourist village has apologized and offered refunds to visitors. The site has also been closed. This incident serves as a reminder for tourist destinations to be transparent and avoid misleading practices, as such actions can severely damage their reputation and trust with visitors.
