France to Receive Major AI Investment
French President Emmanuel Macron announced a significant investment of 109 billion euros (113 billion U.S. dollars) in artificial intelligence (AI) for France in the coming years.
In a televised interview on France 2, Macron compared the investment to the United States' "Stargate" initiative. He explained that the funding will originate from various sources, including the United Arab Emirates, major American and Canadian investment funds, and French companies.
Addressing concerns about China's DeepSeek AI technology, Macron stated that France has no plans to ban it at this time. He believes that banning technology based solely on its country of origin is inappropriate. He further contrasted this approach with the United States' practice of restricting technologies based on nationality while accepting others.

The summit is expected to bring together representatives from nearly 100 countries and over a thousand stakeholders from the private sector and civil society. Attendees were selected based on their commitment to AI development and their willingness to contribute to the global discussion on the technology's future.

Who’s really governing this huge sum? Without proper oversight, this could easily turn into a corporate takeover of public policy.

I’m worried that involving large American and Canadian funds could distort our AI strategy in favor of corporate interests.

A government-led AI push might ignore ethical issues, paving the way for technology that undermines individual rights.
