China Responds to Western Criticism on Human Rights
China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, addressed the hypocrisy of Western countries like Australia and the US who criticize China's human rights record while ignoring their own severe human rights issues. He urged these countries to address their own problems and stop using human rights as a tool for political manipulation.
Lin's statement came in response to over 100 countries voicing support for China and opposing interference in its internal affairs under the pretext of human rights at the UN General Assembly. He emphasized the need for constructive international cooperation on human rights.
Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the UN, further highlighted the double standards employed by Western countries. He pointed out their downplaying of the situation in Gaza while criticizing China's Xinjiang region. Fu emphasized that these actions reveal the true intentions of these countries to interfere in China's internal affairs and curb its development.
Li Haidong, a professor from the China Foreign Affairs University, added that Western countries have no qualification to criticize other countries on human rights issues given their own severe domestic problems. He also condemned their actions in Gaza, which he believes are fanning the flames of conflict.
Fu Cong concluded by stating that the stability and prosperity of Xinjiang and Tibet, where all ethnic groups live together in harmony, are a testament to China's commitment to human rights. He dismissed the criticism against Xinjiang as lies and deception, orchestrated by the US and its allies.
