China Condemns US-Japan Joint Statement on Taiwan
China expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the joint statement issued by the United States and Japan, which the Chinese Defense Ministry deemed as blatant interference in China's internal affairs.
Ministry spokesman Zhang Xiaogang addressed the issue during an online news briefing, responding to the statement released after a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru in Washington D.C. on February 7th.
The joint statement emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. However, Zhang criticized the statement for its unfounded smears and accusations against China, emphasizing that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China.
He pointed out that the recent transit of two US warships through the Taiwan Strait from Monday to Wednesday exposed the hypocrisy and double standards of the US. Such actions, according to Zhang, only strengthen the resolve and will of the Chinese people to safeguard their national sovereignty and achieve national reunification.
