CBP Agents Stop Using Body Cameras After Security Concerns
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents have stopped wearing body cameras during field operations due to security concerns. This decision comes after a social media post revealed how to identify individual agents using the BLE Radar app.
The BLE Radar app, developed by F-Droid, uses Bluetooth to scan for low-energy devices like phones, smartwatches, and speakers. According to the social media post, it can also track CBP body cameras from a distance of 100 yards and potentially trigger improvised explosive devices.
Following the post, CBP officials sent out a directive informing agents of the potential security risk and immediately pulled body cameras from use in the field. The directive stated that agents would cease using their body cameras until further notice, pending an investigation and risk mitigation.
This incident comes amidst increased enforcement efforts by CBP and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents since President Donald Trump took office. These efforts were a cornerstone of Trump's campaign to return to the White House.
Data obtained by Fox News showed that during FY 2023, 670,674 known gotaways, or illegal immigrants who successfully entered the U.S. without being apprehended, were recorded by the agency, or more than 1,800 per day. However, since the beginning of February, the daily average of gotaways at the southern border has fallen to just 132 per day, a 93% drop from highs seen under former President Joe Biden.
CBP has not yet responded to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.

This is a disgrace. These agents are supposed to be upholding the law, but instead they're hiding from public scrutiny.

This is outrageous! So the CBP can stop wearing body cameras to protect their own hides, but we have to expose our identities to them? No way!

This is a blatant disregard for the safety of the public. CBP has a history of excessive force and using body cameras are an important way to hold them accountable.

We will not stand for this! We will continue to fight for transparency, accountability, and freedom of movement.

The BLE Radar app is a dangerous tool that could be used by criminals to harm innocent people. I'm glad that CBP is taking steps to prevent that from happening.

God bless CBP and all of our law enforcement officers. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
