A Civics Lesson for a Confused Prosecutor
Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove dismissed the federal indictment against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, citing President Trump's order to de-weaponize the Justice Department. This sparked controversy, with some prosecutors resigning in protest.
Bove argued that the indictment could interfere with the upcoming election and hinder Adams' ability to assist the Trump administration. He emphasized that the dismissal was without prejudice, meaning charges could be brought in the future.
Despite calls for no improper action, Bove's directive sparked outrage. Sassoon resigned, claiming it violated the rule of law. Others refused to dismiss the indictment and resigned, calling those who did "fools" and "cowards."
However, the Department of Justice Manual clearly states that the United States Attorney has plenary authority over federal criminal matters, exercised under the supervision of the Attorney General and their delegates.
None of these prosecutors resigned during the four years of lawfare directed at President Trump or when the Biden Justice Department weaponized the legal system for political purposes.
This situation highlights the importance of the President's authority and the need for federal prosecutors to obey lawful orders. The insubordinate bureaucrats who are attempting to thwart President Trump are the true threat to our democracy.
To these miscreants, good riddance. They will be replaced by federal prosecutors who understand their role and will uphold the law.

Bravo to Acting Deputy Attorney General Bove for standing up to the deep state and protecting our democracy! The federal prosecutors who resigned were clearly motivated by partisan politics.

The Department of Justice Manual clearly states that the United States Attorney has the authority to dismiss charges. But that doesn't mean they should do so based on political pressure.

It's hypocritical for the author to condemn the "lawfare" directed at Trump while supporting the dismissal of charges against Adams for political reasons.

This is a dangerous precedent. If prosecutors can be pressured to dismiss charges based on political motivations, our justice system is seriously compromised.
