Trump Announces Negotiations with Russia to End Ukraine War
In a statement posted on Truth Social, former US President Donald Trump announced that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed to engage in direct negotiations aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Trump stated that he had a "lengthy and highly productive phone call" with Putin, during which they discussed their shared desire to stop the "millions of deaths taking place in the War with Russia/Ukraine."
Both leaders agreed to work closely together, including potential visits to each other's countries. They also decided to immediately begin negotiations, with their respective teams taking the lead. Trump specifically mentioned US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Director of the Central Intelligence Agency John Ratcliffe, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff as part of the US team.
Trump expressed confidence in the success of these negotiations, stating that he felt "strongly" about their potential to bring an end to the conflict. He also indicated that he would be calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to inform him of the conversation and the upcoming negotiations.

A phone call with Putin is hardly enough; world leaders shouldn’t be impressed by such meetings.

This is absolutely outrageous! Negotiating with Putin only endangers Ukraine’s sovereignty.

These so-called productive talks sound weak and unconvincing from someone with Trump’s track record.

I admire Trump’s willingness to engage. Direct negotiations could be the breakthrough we need.

I respect Trump’s confidence in these negotiations. Peace should always be prioritized over politics.
