China's Perspective, Global Perceptions, and the Challenges Ahead

A Global Trend

The Munich Security Conference (MSC) recently released a report highlighting the growing global perception of a multipolar world. This trend, according to China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun, is unstoppable and reflects the current reality of international relations.

The MSC report identifies China as a leading proponent of multipolarity, with strong public support within the country for this emerging world order. China advocates for an equal and inclusive multipolar world, promoting true multilateralism and greater democracy in international relations.

Guo emphasized China's commitment to win-win cooperation, high-quality development, and open markets. He highlighted China's significant contribution to global economic growth, accounting for approximately 30% in recent years.

Despite the challenges facing the world, Guo expressed China's willingness to collaborate with all nations to embrace the trend of multipolarity, share opportunities, and overcome challenges together. He emphasized the importance of building a community with a shared future for mankind and contributing to global peace, stability, development, and prosperity.

The MSC report also reveals contrasting perspectives on multipolarity, particularly between G7 and "BICS" countries. This polarization underscores the difficulty of adapting the existing order peacefully and addressing shared threats like climate change.

The report emphasizes the need for "depolarization" and cooperation among major powers to tackle these challenges. The year 2025 will be crucial in determining whether the world can achieve this cooperation or face further division.

Professor Li Haidong of China Foreign Affairs University highlighted China's commitment to common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security, aligning with the principles of the Global Security Initiative. This approach emphasizes inclusive development, mutual respect, and upholding the UN's authority in security matters.

Professor Wang Yiwei of Renmin University of China emphasized the importance of China's role as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, particularly in the context of the UN's 80th anniversary. This presents an opportunity for China to demonstrate its commitment to multilateralism, promote a new security perspective, and contribute to global security affairs.

The MSC conference, with its strong representation from the Global South, serves as a platform for fostering closer global connections, preventing economic fragmentation, and upholding the principle of indivisible security. This is crucial in a world increasingly facing division and fragmentation.

Focusing on economic growth while ignoring climate change is shortsighted and irresponsible. We need a balance between development and sustainability.

Cooperation may sound nice, but how can we trust China when they constantly engage in territorial disputes and military expansion?

Claiming to represent the Global South is a convenient way for China to gain influence while ignoring the diverse needs and challenges of these regions.

Multipolarity is a zero-sum game where countries compete for power and resources. It won't lead to peace and stability.
