The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Southern Theater Command conducted routine patrols in the South China Sea on Wednesday. Senior Colonel Tian Junli, spokesperson for the Southern Theater Command, stated that the patrols were a response to the Philippines' "so-called 'joint patrol'" with external countries.
Tian accused the Philippines of creating instability in the South China Sea, providing endorsement for its illegal claims, and eroding China's legitimate maritime rights and interests. He emphasized that the troops of the Southern Theater Command remain on high alert and are resolutely defending national territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests in the South China Sea.
Reuters reported that Australia, Japan, the Philippines, and the US conducted maritime activity within the Philippines' "exclusive economic zone" on Wednesday. Additionally, the air forces of the Philippines and the US held joint patrols over the South China Sea on Tuesday.
Tian asserted that any military activities that seek to disrupt the South China Sea are under control.
