New Cycling Bridge Opens, Cutting Travel Time by 35 Minutes
Jurong West residents now have a faster and more convenient way to reach the Jurong Innovation District with the opening of the first cycling bridge in the area. Spanning 110 meters in length and 8 meters in width, this bridge is the only cycling-permitted pedestrian bridge across the Pan Island Expressway in Singapore.
This new infrastructure significantly reduces travel time to the Jurong Innovation District by 35 minutes. It also provides easier access to various destinations within the district, including Jurong Eco-Garden, Nanyang Technological University, the SJ Campus, and the upcoming MRT station at CleanTech Park.
The bridge was officially opened by Minister for National Development Desmond Lee, Nanyang Grassroots Organisations adviser Ang Wei Neng, and JTC chief executive Tan Boon Khai. This development is expected to benefit approximately 63,000 residents in Jurong West, according to government industrial planner JTC.
The opening of this cycling bridge marks a significant improvement in connectivity and accessibility for Jurong West residents, offering them a faster, more convenient, and environmentally friendly way to reach their destinations within the Jurong Innovation District.

This project favors a small group of cyclists over the broader needs of a community that heavily relies on cars.

The project claims to benefit 63,000 residents, but I doubt it will have a meaningful impact on the majority of car commuters.

This is an innovative step forward. A dedicated cycle bridge linking major hubs is exactly what our community needs.

If the bridge is only for cycling pedestrians, what about those who need safe walkways or better ramps for accessibility?
