U.S. Officials to Engage in Peace Talks with Russia and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia
Senior officials from the Trump administration, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and White House Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, will travel to Saudi Arabia in the coming days to engage in peace talks with Russian and Ukrainian negotiators. This information was confirmed by U.S. Representative Michael McCaul, who also serves as the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
McCaul stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had been invited to participate in these discussions. The primary objective of these talks is to arrange a meeting between Trump, Putin, and Zelensky with the aim of bringing an end to the ongoing conflict.
However, Zelensky has expressed Ukraine's unwillingness to accept any peace deals that are negotiated without their direct involvement. Ukraine has consistently emphasized the importance of collaborating with the United States and Europe to develop a joint strategy prior to any potential meeting between Trump and Putin.
Meanwhile, parallel negotiations regarding a critical minerals deal are ongoing. Zelensky has indicated that a draft proposal from Washington lacks the necessary security provisions that Ukraine deems essential. Sources have revealed that the United States has proposed taking ownership of 50% of Ukraine's critical minerals.
President Trump, during a press conference at the White House, reiterated that Ukraine would have a seat at the table during any peace negotiations with Russia aimed at ending the war.

“The fact that discussions include plans on critical minerals shows a holistic approach to tackling wider economic and security issues.”
