Pope Francis Hospitalized for Bronchitis
Pope Francis was admitted to the Policlinico Agostino Gemelli hospital in Rome on Friday, October 27, 2023, to undergo diagnostic tests and continue treatment for bronchitis. The Vatican announced the hospitalization, stating that the Pope's ongoing bronchitis required further medical attention in a hospital setting.
The Pope's health concerns began the previous week when he experienced a "strong cold" that made it difficult for him to speak. He was diagnosed with bronchitis on Thursday, October 26, and continued his activities and audiences indoors at the Vatican residence. However, his condition worsened, prompting his hospitalization.
Before being admitted to the hospital, Pope Francis held meetings with several individuals, including Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico, Cardinal Luis Tagle, and Mark Thompson, the chairman and CEO of CNN. Witnesses reported that the Pope appeared to struggle with speaking during these meetings.
Pope Francis has a history of health issues. In June 2023, he underwent surgery at the Gemelli hospital to repair an abdominal hernia. He spent nine days in the hospital during that time. The Gemelli hospital has a special suite dedicated to treating popes.
Pope Francis, who is 88 years old, has been the head of the Catholic Church since 2013. His hospitalization has raised concerns about his health and ability to continue his duties as Pope.

The Pope is human just like everyone else. He deserves to receive the best possible care.

He should be spending his time praying for the sick, not getting treated himself.
