The U.S. government has initiated a large-scale dismissal of employees across various agencies, marking a significant escalation in the purge of the federal bureaucracy spearheaded by President Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
The Department of Veterans Affairs has reportedly let go of over 1,000 employees during their probationary period, while the U.S. Forest Service is poised to terminate more than 3,000 individuals. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has also received instructions to dismiss 1,300 staffers.
Termination emails have been sent to workers across various government agencies, including the Department of Education, the Small Business Administration, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and the General Services Administration.
Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance engaged in discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Munich Security Conference on Friday, focusing on finding a resolution to the ongoing war in Ukraine. Vance emphasized the desire to end the bloodshed and achieve a lasting peace.
President Trump signed two additional executive orders on Friday, one halting federal funding for schools that mandate Covid-19 vaccinations and another establishing the Energy Dominance Council, led by Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and Energy Secretary Chris Wright.
