India Invites France to Explore Pinaka Rocket System, Deepening Defense Ties
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his recent visit to France, extended an invitation to the French Army to explore the DRDO-developed Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher. This invitation signifies a potential milestone in the growing defense collaboration between India and France.
The joint statement issued by PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron highlighted the deep and longstanding defense cooperation between the two nations. They welcomed the ongoing collaboration in various areas, including the construction of Scorpene submarines in India, the integration of DRDO-developed Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) into these submarines, and the potential integration of the Integrated Combat System (ICS) into future submarines.
The statement also acknowledged the ongoing discussions in missiles, helicopter engines, and jet engines, reflecting the expanding scope of defense cooperation. Additionally, President Macron welcomed India's inclusion as an observer to the Eurodrone MALE program, further strengthening the partnership in defense equipment programs.
India's Ministry of Defence has recently signed contracts for the procurement of Area Denial Munition (ADM) Type-1 and High Explosive Pre Fragmented (HEPF) Mk-1 rockets for the Pinaka Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS). These upgrades will enhance the system's capabilities and effectiveness.
The invitation to explore the Pinaka system and the ongoing defense collaborations demonstrate the deepening strategic partnership between India and France. This partnership is crucial for maintaining regional security and stability.
