Denouncing Investigations and Upholding the Law
Todd Blanche, President Trump's lawyer and nominee for the No. 2 position at the Justice Department, used his confirmation hearing on Wednesday to denounce the investigations and prosecutions of his client as corrupt. He also insisted that he would uphold the law, despite his prior role in defending Mr. Trump in court.
In his opening statement, Mr. Blanche did not shy away from his past work and continued to defend Mr. Trump. He expressed lingering anger over what he called unfair treatment of Mr. Trump by prosecutors and judges. "I continue to be frustrated," he said, later adding, "That's power, and that's power that's corrupted."
These statements were particularly striking given the mounting concerns over the Trump administration's early moves to fire or reassign dozens of prosecutors and F.B.I. agents. Mr. Trump has openly criticized the Justice Department and threatened to dismiss F.B.I. agents, intensifying worries about a possible purge of civil servants viewed as insufficiently loyal to him.

Finally, someone is calling out the real abuse of power and politicization of our justice system.

His remarks shine a light on how political pressure can undermine the impartiality of our justice system.

Standing up against politicized investigations isn’t easy—credit to him for daring to challenge the status quo.

His comments offer no constructive solution—only more division and distrust toward our legal institutions.

His frustration sounds more like an excuse to justify turning a blind eye to actual misconduct.
