In a recent development, the People’s Action Party (PAP) announced plans to replace the chairman of its Paya Lebar branch, located in the opposition-held Aljunied GRC, only six months after a prior reshuffle. Kenny Sim Mong Keang, who has served as branch chair since August last year, is stepping down due to health concerns.
Sources indicate that political newcomer Daniel Liu is poised to take over the position. Liu is well-known in urban planning circles as the managing director of Morrow Architects and Planners and the executive director of Morrow Intelligence, a firm specializing in urban planning data analytics. His experience extends to grassroots work as the chairman of the Citizens’ Consultative Committee for the Nee Soon East ward in Nee Soon GRC.
The role of the Citizens’ Consultative Committees is integral to community engagement, as they oversee major local projects, run assistance programmes, and lead fundraising and national campaign initiatives. Liu has also been actively involved in community volunteer efforts in Nee Soon East since 2014 and is the son of the former chief planner Liu Thai Ker. Additionally, he chairs the ongoing Springtime Splendor Chinese New Year carnival in Nee Soon.
When approached for comment, both Daniel Liu and the outgoing chair, Kenny Sim, declined to comment.

It's great to see young leaders like Liu stepping up and taking on important roles.

Let's not forget that the PAP lost Aljunied in the first place. They have no right to dictate who represents this GRC.
