A Blow to Putin's Army

In a significant blow to the Russian military, a senior commander, Captain Konstantin Nagayko, was killed by a bomb blast. The explosive device was delivered in a parcel to Nagayko, who was stationed with his unit in the town of Shuya, Russia.

Nagayko, the commander of Russia's 112th Missile Brigade, had been involved in attacks on Ukraine. The incident occurred on January 3rd, but his death was only recently confirmed by Russia's Ministry of Defence.

The blast severely injured Nagayko, who was initially taken to Shuya's Central District Hospital. However, due to the severity of his wounds, surgeons were unable to treat him. He was then airlifted to a medical facility in Ivanovo, where he underwent an emergency operation, including a craniotomy. Despite the efforts of the medical team, Nagayko succumbed to his injuries.

Nagayko and his unit were responsible for a brutal attack on a cafe in the Ukrainian village of Hroza during a funeral reception in 2023. The attack resulted in the deaths of 59 people, including children, who were attending a memorial service for a slain Ukrainian soldier.

The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine released a statement confirming Nagayko's death and highlighting his role in war crimes. They stated, "Russian surgery was of no help to the war criminal. The Ukrainian people will see just retribution for every war crime committed against them."

Under Nagayko's command, the 112th Missile Brigade launched numerous rocket attacks using Iskander ballistic missiles on civilian and military targets in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions of Ukraine. His assassination is the latest in a series of such incidents that have shaken the Russian leadership.
