M25 Improvement Project Delayed by Nine Months
The £317 million project to improve the M25, a crucial motorway encircling Greater London, has been pushed back by nine months due to "bad weather." The project, initially scheduled for completion this year, aims to reduce congestion by increasing the number of lanes at Junction 10, one of the UK's most dangerous junctions.
The project has caused short-term traffic disruptions, and the delay means the work won't be completed until spring 2026. National Highways, the government-owned company responsible for the project, insists the delay won't significantly impact most road users, as long as they avoid traveling during closure periods.
However, Steven Gooding, director of the RAC Foundation, warns that drivers should brace themselves for another year of disruption. The upcoming closures in March will see the M25 closed between Junctions 10 and 11 for two weekends to demolish and remove old bridges.
National Highways urges drivers to follow official diversion routes and avoid relying solely on satnavs to prevent further congestion in surrounding areas. While the project has caused inconvenience, it is expected to benefit millions of people in the long term by reducing congestion and improving safety.

These improvements are a win for the community in the long haul. We need to trust that the authorities are doing what’s necessary.

Nine months delay might be inconvenient, but safety should come first. Better delays than rushed, shoddy work!

Everyone’s going to face some inconvenience during the construction, but the focus on safety and efficiency is reassuring.

Another year of disruption? This is getting ridiculous. When will the authorities take responsibility for these delays?

Bad weather is one thing, but poor scheduling and planning seem to be the real culprits behind these delays.
