Tragic Loss and Brutal Crime Shatter a Family in Scotland

Bobbie Cowan from Fife, Scotland, shared the heart-wrenching details of the night she learned Calum Simpson, her partner, had been brutally attacked and killed. On that fateful evening, Calum’s drink was drugged, rendering him unconscious before he was sexually assaulted—a crime so terrible that parts of it were recorded on a mobile phone.

Calum, a young father who cherished his role in raising his three children and another child he loved as his own despite different paternity, ultimately succumbed to a combination of a Class C drug, Etizolam, and alcohol. In a subsequent High Court session in Edinburgh, Dylan Brister, 27, and Cameron Allan, 21, were convicted of Calum’s murder. The judge handed down harsh sentences—Brister facing at least 23 years and Allan a minimum of 19 years—while both also received an indefinite registration as sex offenders, underscoring the severity of their actions.
