The United Kingdom is bracing for a blast of frigid weather in early February, with a "Scandinavian High" bringing biting winds that will make it feel as cold as -8C in some areas.
According to the Met Office, the weather phenomenon will usher in freezing winds from the east over the North Sea to the UK starting today (Monday). An area of high pressure will keep this weather pattern in place until at least next week.
Long-range maps from WXCharts and Netweather.tv indicate that almost the entire country will be affected by the Baltic breezes, with only the tip of Cornwall escaping the worst of the weather.
Temperatures are expected to plummet to as low as -7C and -8C on February 17 and 18, with western Scotland, the Midlands, and higher ground in Wales bearing the brunt of the cold conditions. Even central London could experience a wind chill of -4C.
