Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Denies Allegations of Financial Gain and Corruption
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has vehemently denied accusations that she uses her political position for personal financial gain. These accusations, often spread by supporters of former President Donald Trump, claim that the New York representative has amassed a fortune of $30 million despite her annual congressional salary of $174,000.
Ocasio-Cortez has repeatedly refuted these claims, stating that she is not even worth $1 million, let alone $30 million. She has publicly shared her financial disclosure forms, which show that she has less than $15,000 in savings and checking accounts and less than $1,000 in a brokerage account. Additionally, she owes between $15,000 and $50,000 in student loans.
The congresswoman has attributed these attacks to her political stance as a liberal Democrat who opposes Trump and her status as the youngest woman to serve in Congress. She has pointed out that she is one of the few members of Congress who does not seek out or agree to lucrative deals to supplement her congressional salary.
Ocasio-Cortez is a vocal advocate for economic equality, student loan forgiveness, affordable housing, and other progressive policies. She has criticized even her fellow party members who advocate for similar positions but have accumulated significant wealth, accusing some Democrats of "insider trading."
Since Trump took office and aligned himself with several billionaires, Ocasio-Cortez has been quick to call out hypocrisies. She has specifically criticized Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who was granted "special government employee" status by the Trump administration and tasked with reducing federal spending. Ocasio-Cortez has pointed out that Musk's team has attempted to shut down the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and has spread baseless accusations about the agency to garner support for their efforts.

“I’m tired of both sides shoving narratives down our throats. Without an impartial audit, nothing in this text feels 100% convincing.”

“I’m not buying it – political denial doesn’t prove innocence. ACO might be playing both sides to stay popular.”

“Her ‘insider trading’ accusations against other Democrats are ironic when her own finances remain so murky.”

“AOC’s public sharing of her finances is admirable, but it doesn’t erase doubts about the bigger picture of campaign contributions and favors.”
