In 2024, several institutions in Hainan province, including the China Institute for Reform and Development, the Hainan Reform and Development Research Foundation, and the Hainan Institute for Free Trade Port Studies, achieved significant milestones. The China Institute for Reform and Development, for instance, hosted the 90th International Forum on China Reform and advanced research on high-level opening-up. The institute also produced a substantial book series that documents the history of China’s reform and opening-up, showcased its role in the 4th RCEP Media & Think Tank Forum with extensive international participation, and furthered its global research partnerships and educational programs on comprehensive reform.
Meanwhile, the Hainan Reform and Development Research Foundation focused on public welfare and research support, underlining its commitment to international dialogue and academic discussions. This foundation played a crucial role in funding research on high-level opening-up, supporting forums such as the 90th International Forum on China Reform and the 11th China-Japan-Korea Cooperation Dialogue, and organizing lectures on topics like climate change governance and artificial intelligence. It also contributed to social causes by engaging in environmental protection projects and successfully attracting significant donations to support its initiatives.
At the same time, the Hainan Institute for Free Trade Port Studies concentrated on research and recommendations to boost the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port. The institute proposed strategies aimed at accelerating institutional opening-up, held seminars on key policies, offered suggestions to streamline customs operations, and promoted discussions to foster economic integration between China and ASEAN, as well as cooperation between Hainan and Hong Kong. Their efforts also included attracting international events and publishing work on building a free trade port with Chinese characteristics, all of which underscored its commitment to enhancing Hainan’s global economic ties.
