China's National Meteorological Center has issued a renewed yellow alert due to forecasts of strong winds and significant temperature drops, particularly in northeastern Heilongjiang province where the Asian Winter Games are currently taking place. The alert comes as the center predicts that powerful winds will affect several areas across the country from early Saturday to early Sunday.
The forecast includes not just Heilongjiang but also parts of Inner Mongolia, Hebei province, Xizang autonomous region, and Qinghai province. In addition, strong winds are expected over multiple bodies of water surrounding China, such as the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea, the Taiwan Strait, waters east of Taiwan, the Bashi Channel, and the South China Sea.
Furthermore, while the blue alert for a cold wave that was in place until Friday has been lifted, the forecast indicates that temperature drops of up to 10 degrees Celsius could occur, particularly in parts of Inner Mongolia and Heilongjiang. The weather warning system used by China employs four color-coded levels to indicate severity, with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
