Chinese prosecutors have embarked on a comprehensive campaign to enhance food and drug safety by concentrating on 10 priority areas. The initiative, announced by the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, is designed to monitor issues that have attracted substantial public complaints and to address these challenges through the use of public interest litigation.
The campaign specifically emphasizes sectors including food additives, safe drinking water, edible agricultural products, online food sales, and the safety of catering services in designated venues. In addition, industries such as the tea market, medical devices, and the management of community hospitals as well as rural health clinics are also under close scrutiny.
Data from recent months indicates that between November and January, Chinese prosecutors resolved over 4,000 cases related to food and drug safety through legal actions aimed at protecting public health and steering industrial practices. This effort marks a significant step in regulatory oversight and public protection across multiple critical sectors.
