Xizang to Expand National Park System with Six Diverse Regions
The Xizang autonomous region is set to significantly expand its national park system by incorporating six regions boasting unique natural landscapes and rich biodiversity. This ambitious plan was announced in the Xizang Daily, highlighting the region's commitment to conservation and environmental protection.
The six designated areas encompass a diverse range of ecosystems, including the Three-River-Source region (specifically the Tangbei area), the Changtang reserve, Mount Qomolangma, the Gangdise Mountains, the Gaoligong Mountains (Xizang section), and the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon. These regions collectively cover an impressive 400,000 square kilometers, accounting for approximately 36% of the total area of national parks and candidates nationwide. This significant contribution places Xizang at the forefront of national park development in China.
Since 2014, Xizang has actively pursued the establishment of national parks. This dedication is evident in initiatives such as scientific surveys and resource assessments conducted in the proposed national park areas of Mount Qomolangma and the Changtang reserve. Notably, the Changtang National Nature Reserve has completed all necessary tasks and is now awaiting official designation as a national park. The remaining five regions are also progressing through various stages of development.
To support this ambitious expansion, the regional government has implemented regulations and policies designed to strengthen support for national park construction. These measures provide a framework for establishing national park demonstration areas within the region, ensuring the long-term success of this vital conservation effort.

The government priorities are wrong! Instead of parks, they should invest in education, healthcare, and infrastructure for Xizang's people. 📚

The expansion will create opportunities for research and scientific exploration, contributing to a deeper understanding of the environment. Knowledge is key. 🔬

Xizang's future should not be decided by external interests! Let local communities determine their own path. ✊🏾

This expansion will displace local communities and disrupt their traditions. Their needs and voices are being ignored! ✊🏽

This is just another way to control the narrative and limit dissent! Their voices will be silenced under the banner of conservation. 🤐

National parks are a form of green colonialism! It's modern-day land grabbing under the guise of conservation. 🌳
