China has achieved notable advances in converting cutting-edge, green, and low-carbon technologies into practical applications that address pressing environmental challenges. At a recent conference organized by the Environmental Development Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, experts discussed how these breakthroughs are being applied to control pollution, restore ecosystems, and spur the development of green industries. This gathering was also the third meeting of the China Ecological & Environment Technology Transformation Service Platform’s council.
Launched in 2019, the service platform represents a strategic effort to integrate resources from various stakeholders. It provides a collaborative system where local governments and businesses can address technical issues by matching environmental protection needs with the expertise and technologies available from multiple sources. Xu Cheng, the secretary-general of the council, explained that the platform has broadened the methods and channels for transforming ecological technologies by aligning demands and supplies from the national to local levels. Through these efforts, nearly 100 state-of-the-art technologies have been introduced via processes such as demand analysis, technology exchanges, and targeted promotions.
The conference detailed specific examples of these technological innovations. For instance, efforts to combat water pollution have led to the development of advanced detection methods for waterborne parasites like Giardia lamblia and Cryptosporidium. Collaborations between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and industry partners resulted in an automatic identification system that has significantly improved detection efficiency and cut costs by more than 30 percent, with widespread adoption in municipal disease control centers, water monitoring stations, and research institutes.
In addition, keynote speeches from noted experts—including academicians Qu Jiuhui and Peng Yongzhen, and researcher Cao Hongbin—shed light on comprehensive approaches to tackling environmental issues. Officials expressed optimism that the Environmental Development Center would continue to enhance resource coordination, drive technological innovation, and ultimately set higher service standards, establishing the service platform as a leading hub for the transformation of ecological and environmental technologies.
