The Ministry of Public Security has instructed police across China to investigate cases of Chinese citizens who have gone missing or had their personal freedom restricted overseas. This comes in response to a recent increase in incidents of Chinese citizens being deceived into traveling overseas and then disappearing or becoming trapped.
The Ministry has stated that it takes these reports seriously and is working to rescue the missing individuals with the assistance of foreign affairs departments and Chinese embassies and consulates. The Ministry also warns the public to be vigilant and avoid falling victim to scams that promise high-paying jobs, free travel, or other benefits in exchange for engaging in illegal activities overseas.
These scams often lure people in with promises of "high-paying jobs with free meals and accommodation, reimbursement of flight tickets and people especially designated to pick you up." They may also deceive people under the guise of business trips or free travel. The Ministry urges the public to be cautious and to avoid falling victim to these scams.

They promise assistance now, but past experiences have shown that such promises rarely materialize.
