Train Services Resume After Derailed Vehicle Cleared
Normal train services on the North-South and East-West lines in Singapore have resumed after an engineering vehicle derailed and blocked Bishan Depot. The incident occurred on Friday morning when the vehicle broke down while returning to the depot, preventing trains from leaving to serve the North-South Line.
SMRT, the public transport operator, successfully cleared the tracks and launched trains from Bishan Depot at 6:36 pm. Train services on both lines have resumed, although intervals between trains during peak hours are slightly longer than usual.
The recovery operation took longer than expected due to the limited space around the tracks, which prevented the use of a heavy-lifting crane. SMRT engineers had to use hydraulic equipment to slowly move the vehicle inch by inch.
SMRT is investigating the cause of the engineering vehicle's failure.

“Why isn’t anyone holding SMRT accountable? Incidents like this show how unprepared they are for actual emergencies.”
