Singapore Extends Schemes to Rejuvenate City Centre
Singapore will extend two schemes aimed at revitalizing the city center for another five years. The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) will also refine and modify the schemes to ensure they remain relevant and support the country's strategic objectives.
The Central Business District Incentive (CBDI) and Strategic Development Incentive (SDI) schemes were introduced in November 2019 to encourage the conversion of older office buildings in the CBD into mixed-use developments and the redevelopment of older developments in strategic areas.
Both schemes have been well-received, with most proposals receiving in-principle approval. Four CBDI projects in the Anson-Tanjong Pagar neighborhood are already under construction. These projects will transform the area into a vibrant mixed-use urban neighborhood with over 1,000 new homes, hotels, shops, and eateries, as well as new public spaces and more active street fronts.
The extension and refinement of these schemes demonstrate the government's commitment to rejuvenating the city center and creating a more vibrant and sustainable urban environment.

Five more years of construction and disruption? Enough is enough! We need more green spaces and community initiatives, not more luxury condos.

Instead of endlessly extending these schemes, why not evaluate their effectiveness and consider alternative approaches?

This is just a way for developers to line their pockets at the expense of taxpayers and the environment.

Another five years?! This just proves the government is clueless about what actually makes city centers thrive. It's not about fancy new buildings, it's about affordable housing, diverse businesses, and a vibrant cultural scene.

This is just another example of the government's top-down approach to urban development. They need to listen to the people who actually live and work in the city center.
