The Malaysian king, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, has traveled abroad for medical treatment, a move announced on his official Facebook page and corroborated by Malaysia’s national palace. The Istana Negara stated that the information has been shared with the Conference of Rulers and the federal government. Additionally, the palace urged all Malaysians to keep His Majesty in their prayers for a rapid recovery and continued good health.
Accompanying the sultan on his journey were his two sons, Tunku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Abu Bakar Sultan Ibrahim. Several images released by the Royal Press Office show the king in an orange blazer, departing from Subang Air Base on Friday morning. Prior to his departure, Sultan Ibrahim had attended important state functions, including the official opening of the first meeting of the Fourth Session of the 15th Parliament and a pre-council meeting of the Conference of Rulers held at the Istana Negara.
This is not the first instance of the monarch seeking medical assistance abroad; in 2016, he underwent an angioplasty procedure in Singapore after experiencing chest pain during exercise. In addition, there was an earlier report from 2018 that indicated he had received treatment in Singapore for a longstanding polo injury to his shoulder.
