UK Faces Potential Snowfall Across 40 Cities

The UK is bracing for a potential blanket of snow this weekend, with almost 40 cities facing the brunt of a 450-mile snow wall. The Met Office has pinpointed two regions most at risk, but new data from WXCharts forecasts snow sweeping across the nation on February 22nd, accompanied by heavy rain, wind, and bitterly cold weather.

The maps show snow potentially covering 24 cities in England, including Birmingham, Bradford, Coventry, Derby, Doncaster, Durham, Hull, Leeds, Leicester, Lichfield, Lincoln, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Nottingham, Oxford, Preston, Ripon, Sheffield, Stoke, Sunderland, Wakefield, Worcester, and York.

Seven cities in Scotland (Aberdeen, Dundee, Dunfermline, Edinburgh, Inverness, Perth, Stirling) and six in Northern Ireland (Armagh, Bangor, Belfast, Lisburn, Londonderry, Newry) are also expected to see snowfall. Snow and rain showers could fall across other parts of the UK, with snow along the west coast and rain along the south coast.

Temperatures are expected to be lowest in central Scotland at 0°C. The rest of Scotland and the north of England will see temperatures between 2°C and 4°C. The remainder of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland will see temperatures between 4°C and 6°C.

"Weather patterns in the UK are most likely to be slowly evolving." They predict high pressure to the east or northeast of the UK initially, potentially declining over time and allowing for a transition to more unsettled and less cold conditions. During this transition, periods of rain or snow are possible, but details remain uncertain.
