The wintry weather that has dominated January is set to persist into this month as snowy conditions spread across the United Kingdom. Early on Saturday, areas including Southern England, the Midlands, and Wales are predicted to experience snowfall with rates reaching up to 5 centimeters per hour in parts of the South. The BXCharts weather maps indicate that a broad swath of Wales will see snowfall moving from north to south, and by early hours, regions in Scotland, particularly the highlands, will have accumulated snow on the ground.
Later on Saturday, the snowfall is expected to continue, especially at around 6pm, with additional accumulations in parts of the UK. While areas around Manchester and Newcastle might experience up to 3 centimeters of powder, snowfall will still be active in certain regions of Wales even as Northern England remains mostly dry. In contrast, some southern regions are more likely to see rain instead of snow, contributing to an overall icy atmosphere across the nation.
Looking ahead, forecasts from the Met Office indicate an extended period of wintry weather with showers developing from February 7. Breezy winds, a mix of rain, sleet, and snow, and cloudier conditions will combine with dropping temperatures to make for a particularly chilly period. There is also a possibility of additional snow next week, especially over the southern and southwestern parts of the country, with overnight frost expected where skies clear while brisk winds might reduce the risk of a hard frost forming.
