Recent weather maps indicate that a cold snap will affect much of the UK in the coming days, with snow showers expected over a large part of southwestern Britain on Friday night. The forecast suggests that up to 1cm of snow could accumulate in areas such as the Welsh capital, Bristol, Devon, Somerset, Hampshire, and Wiltshire, while many other parts of the country may only see a light dusting.
In addition to the forecast for snow, the British weather services are predicting showers of rain, sleet, and snow, particularly in the south, as a high-pressure system moves in from the east. Meteorologists at the Met Office have noted that this system will bring along colder temperatures and an increased risk of wintry conditions, with a notable mix of sleet and snow expected over southern regions during Saturday.
Looking ahead to early next week, forecast maps reveal that there could be additional pockets of snowfall over parts of Greater London, Sussex, and the Midlands by Monday morning, alongside rain in the southeast, which may affect counties like Kent, Essex, Suffolk, and Norfolk. The long range forecast indicates breezy winds, increased cloud cover, and overall below-average temperatures, with the possibility of overnight frost provided that skies remain clear, while breezy conditions might reduce the risk of severe frost forming.
