Conservatives and Reform Eye Election Deal to Oust Starmer

Conservative and Reform Parties in Secret Talks for Election Deal

Rumors have surfaced about secret talks between the Conservative and Reform parties regarding a potential election deal aimed at ousting Sir Keir Starmer from Downing Street. While both parties have denied any formal agreement, The Spectator magazine, with close ties to the Conservatives, reported that informal discussions have taken place.

The magazine's political editor, Katy Balls, suggests that some Tories believe an alliance is necessary to prevent further losses in the upcoming election. Options under consideration include a formal pact where the parties avoid competing against each other in specific constituencies, a less formal arrangement similar to the alleged Labour-Liberal Democrat collaboration in 2024, or even a full-blown merger. The potential new party has been dubbed the "Reformed Conservative Party" by some Tories.

Both Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch and Reform leader Nigel Farage have publicly rejected the idea of a merger. However, a YouGov survey indicates that 25% of voters would support Reform in a hypothetical election, compared to 24% for Labour and 21% for the Conservatives.

Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg, former business secretary, has publicly advocated for a pact, warning that a divided right-wing could lead to another Labour victory. He emphasizes the need for unity within the Conservative and Reform parties to prevent Labour from retaining its majority.

While the details of any potential deal remain unclear, the possibility of an alliance between the Conservatives and Reform presents a significant challenge to Labour's hold on power. The coming months will likely reveal whether these secret talks translate into a concrete agreement that could reshape the British political landscape.

This isn't about ousting Labour, it's about them clinging to power at any cost. They've lost touch with the people and are just playing political chess with our future.

The Conservatives already have a majority, they don't need the Reform Party. This is just power grabbing and nothing more.

I'm a lifelong Conservative voter, but this potential deal is a dealbreaker for me. If they go through with it, I'll be looking for a new party to support.

I'm glad the Conservatives are looking at all options. If a deal with the Reform Party helps us win, then I'm all for it.

Absolutely not! Merging with the Reform Party would just legitimize their extreme views. We need to stand strong as the Conservatives and offer a clear alternative to Labour.
