This morning, police descended upon Cherry Orchard Nature Reserve in Worcester, effectively shutting down access to the grounds. The scene unfolded with a heavy police presence, including a dog unit and approximately 15 council officers.
The lockdown stemmed from an eviction operation targeting an individual who had occupied a portion of the reserve for an extended period. Despite repeated offers of accommodation and support from the council and other agencies, the individual persistently refused assistance. Additionally, reports surfaced of the individual exhibiting abusive and threatening behavior towards visitors of the reserve.
In mid-January 2025, Worcester City Council obtained a High Court Writ of Enforcement authorizing the eviction. This morning, council officers, accompanied by High Court Bailiffs and the police, carried out the eviction and cleared the site.

The reports of abusive behavior are unacceptable. No one should be subjected to such treatment in a public space.

This is pure cruelty. What about their human rights? Offering them "support" isn't enough when they clearly need a safe place to stay.

Imagine the fear and vulnerability this individual must be feeling right now. Eviction is never the answer.

Instead of offering real solutions, they go for the most brutal option. This is why we need change!

Targeting one individual won't solve the problem. We need affordable housing and real support for those in need.

Cherry Orchard should be a safe haven for everyone, not a battleground for evictions.

Everyone deserves compassion and support, but that doesn't mean condoning breaking the law. This is a complex issue with no easy answers.

Didn't the council learn anything from previous evictions? This only increases trauma and homelessness.

It's important to remember that individuals and communities have rights. However, those rights shouldn't infringe on the rights of others.

This incident lays bare the inequalities in our society. Where is the compassion and understanding?

Outrageous! Evicting someone from their home in a nature reserve, especially someone who needs support? Shame on the council!
