100,000 Eggs Worth $40,000 Stolen from Pennsylvania Egg Supplier

In a shocking incident, thieves stole a staggering 100,000 eggs, valued at $40,000, from a trailer belonging to Pete & Jerry's Organics, an egg supplier specializing in organic, pasture-raised, and organic liquid egg whites. The heist occurred at the rear of a distribution trailer in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, approximately 159 miles from Philadelphia, at 8:40 p.m.

The Pennsylvania State Police are actively investigating the crime, but have not yet released any additional details or identified any potential leads or motives. The investigation remains ongoing.

This theft comes at a time when the United States is facing an egg shortage due to a surge in avian flu cases. Last year, 50 million egg-laying hens succumbed to the disease, with an additional 14 million being culled in the past four weeks.

The combined effect of tight supply and high demand has resulted in a significant spike in wholesale egg prices and intermittent shortages at retail locations across the country. The average price of a dozen eggs has reached $4.16, and prices are projected to climb another 20% this year, following a 65% surge in 2024.

Pete & Jerry's Organics has acknowledged the incident and is collaborating with local law enforcement in the investigation. However, due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, they are unable to provide further comment.

Good for them! These large egg producers are exploiting animals and charging ridiculous prices. This is a form of protest.

I don't condone stealing, but I understand why someone would do this in these desperate times. It's not like they're hurting anyone.

This is a Robin Hood situation. Taking from the rich and giving to the poor. I can't help but admire their boldness.

This is just a drop in the bucket compared to the millions of eggs wasted by these companies every year. Let them take a small hit.

Maybe this will send a message to the supermarkets and force them to lower their prices. People are struggling to afford food.
