On January 25, authorities found a dismembered body in a remote area of Higashi-Osaka, Osaka Prefecture. Following a thorough investigation, police arrested a 28-year-old suspect named Hiroto Oki on February 3.
Oki is believed to have discarded the body in a mountainous region near the city's border with Ikoma, Nara Prefecture, around December 28. The remains were in a state of decomposition, with missing body parts including the head, arms, and legs. Although some parts were located nearby, there were no personal items found that could help identify the victim.
Identification of Oki was made possible through footage from local security cameras. He was located in Nara Prefecture shortly before his arrest and has reportedly confessed to the allegations related to the case. Investigators are now looking into whether he had any involvement in the victim's death and possible dismemberment, as a murder charge could be filed against him.
An autopsy has revealed that the victim was likely a man between 40 and 50 years old, who is believed to have died towards the end of December. Police are currently attempting to confirm his identity using DNA analysis.
