Shohei Ohtani's Pitching Return and Other Dodgers News
Los Angeles Dodgers fans received some exciting news at the team's annual fan fest. Manager Dave Roberts announced that two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani is expected to return to the mound in May. Ohtani hasn't pitched in the majors since August 2023 due to a left shoulder surgery. However, Roberts assured fans that Ohtani is looking strong and on track for a May return.
Ohtani himself confirmed that he's been working out every day and is looking forward to spring training. However, he couldn't pinpoint an exact date for his pitching return, as he needs to assess his progress after his first bullpen session.
Meanwhile, World Series MVP Freddie Freeman is also on the mend after undergoing ankle surgery in December. He started hitting this week and is aiming to be ready for the season opener in Tokyo.
Clayton Kershaw, who had foot and knee surgeries in November, has begun a throwing progression and is in talks with the team about finalizing a contract.
Dodgers fans also showed their support for utilityman Kiké Hernández, chanting his name during the fan fest. General manager Brandon Gomes indicated that the team is still considering signing him.
Finally, Roberts is heading into the final season of his current contract, but the team is talking to him about an extension. He has led the Dodgers to the postseason every year since joining the team, winning four NL pennants and two World Series titles.
